Interfaith Leadership Forum on the Environment

Al Todd, Executive Director of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay participated in an Interfaith Leadership Forum on the Environment on January 10th.

The meeting brought together faith-based and environmental organizations in the Bay Region to discuss potential initiatives related to the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed. The imperative of stewardship of the earth is common to many faiths and nearly every religious denomination was represented.

The group agreed on the need to put faith into action in terms of the environment and to increase awareness in faith congregations and move them toward action.   Bishop Eugene Sutton of the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, Nina Beth Cardin of the Baltimore Jewish Environmental Network, Reverend William Hathaway, Fist Presbyterian Church (and Chair of the Chesapeake Interfaith Environmental Group)   in Annapolis, and Will Baker of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation provided opening remarks.

The Alliance is working with the Chesapeake Covenant Community and other groups to explore how to connect these communities with other groups that the Alliance works with, such as local watershed organizations. The Chesapeake Interfaith Environmental Group is hosting an Earth-Water-Faith Festival in Annapolis on April 22.
