Meet The Staff: Jessica Blackburn
Meet our Citizens Advisory Committee Coordinator
based out of the Virginia Office
Jessica is a native of Richmond, Virginia and grew up spending lazy summer days floating down the James River in inner-tubes with her family or camping in the George Washington National Forest along the Tye River. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with a Minor in Philosophy from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Jessica has worked for the Alliance since March 2001, supporting projects in community education and volunteer coordination. She has worked on Environmental Justice issues, the Virginia Builders for the Bay program and the Citizen Water Quality Monitoring program. In April 2005 she became the coordinator for the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) to the Chesapeake Executive Council.
As Coordinator for CAC, Jessica provides professional staffing support to 28 citizen volunteers who are appointed by the Governors of VA, MD, PA, the Mayor of DC and the Board of Directors of the Alliance. She is responsible for organizing meetings throughout the Bay watershed where CAC hears from government officials, technical experts and stakeholders and discusses issues impacting local rivers and the policies and programs proposed to address them. She works with the CAC to prepare recommendations to the Chesapeake Bay Executive Council.
Jessica lives in the James River Watershed in Richmond, VA where she tends to her vegetable and herb garden, aspires to be a foodie by sampling local restaurants, listens to music, and reads science fiction and fantasy novels.
