Meet The Staff: Marissa Spratley
Meet our Communications Specialist
based out of the Maryland & DC Office
Marissa was born and raised in Maryland, her house only two blocks away from the Chesapeake Bay. As a kid, she loved exploring the outdoors–whether she was trudging through the woods behind her house, riding her bike around the neighborhood, or tagging along with a friend on a boating or fishing trip, she thrived being outside exposed to all that nature has to offer.
When Marissa moved to Pennsylvania for college, she realized just how special living in Maryland and growing up on the Chesapeake Bay was. She received her B.A. from Susquehanna University in Environmental Studies and Creative Writing. Although Susquehanna did not have the familiar view of the Bay, it was located along the Susquehanna River–one of the Bay’s main freshwater sources. It was then that Marissa developed a passion for helping improve the quality of the Bay through efforts around the watershed.
Marissa is the Communications Specialist at the Alliance’s Annapolis office. Her job includes communications outreach through social media, press releases, website content, and more. In addition to communicating the Alliance’s mission to the public, she also organizes ForumPlus events throughout the year to engage environmental organizations in continuous conversation about ways that we can improve the Bay and its watershed.
Marissa loves to spend time kayaking and hiking along the Bay. She is always in search of a new place with fresh scenery to explore. She also spends time looking for new fun projects to get involved in, such as refurbishing old furniture or recycling wine bottles into something new. In her spare time, you can find Marissa reading, playing board games, or spending time with her family and friends.
