FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 30, 2025

In Celebration of June Dairy Month, Giant Food recently awarded more than $65,000 to the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay (Alliance) to implement sustainability practices on local dairy farms in the Chesapeake Bay. Collected through a recent round-up campaign in Giant’s more than 150 stores, the funding will support work under the Giant Clean Water Partnership (GCWP). Since 2022, Giant has donated more than $345,000 to the Alliance through round-up campaigns to support a more sustainable dairy supply chain.

“At Giant Food, we take pride in being a pillar of the community and supporting both our neighbors and the local businesses that drive our region’s success,” says Felis Andrade, Director of Community Relations at Giant Food. “We’re proud to continue this partnership by providing resources that help local dairy farms advance their sustainability efforts.”

Under the banner of the GCWP, Giant Food, the Alliance, and Maola Local Dairies are supporting local dairy farmers throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed with resources and incentives to meet environmental standards that support clean water and long-term financial success.

”The GCWP showcases how much more we can accomplish when working together. The resources we’re able to compile and the solutions we set our sights on are greater and more impactful when everyone is at the table. We’re incredibly grateful that the GCWP gives us the opportunity to work with the entire dairy supply chain from the farmer to the consumer, “shared Jenna Beckett, Agriculture Program Director at the Alliance.

The GCWP started in 2020 and has raised more than $1.4 M for dairy farm sustainability practices through Giant’s reusable bag sales and round up campaigns, as well as other grant sources awarded to the Alliance. The partnership is part of a larger sustainability relationship with the Alliance where more than $100M has been raised for the local dairy farm families who make up Maola Local Dairies – 90% of which are within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

“Maola Local Dairies is proud to work with supply chain partners like Giant Food who care about helping the local dairy farms who supply their stores with milk become more sustainable,” said Lindsay Reames, Executive Vice President of Sustainability & External Relations at Maola. “Independently we wouldn’t succeed in what together we are accomplishing for the health of the Chesapeake Bay. It takes the entire supply chain to be better for the Bay and better for our farmers.”
