The Alliance and LaBelle Patrimoine are both committed to improving water, soil, air quality, and biodiversity throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed, through the implementation of regenerative agriculture practices within the LaBelle supply chain. LaBelle’s suppliers are looking to go above and beyond the conventional best management practices that may already be in place to focus on improving farms holistically through regenerative agriculture practices.
Collaboration with a third-party verifier, Earth Claims, will result in the creation of regenerative agriculture standards specific to poultry. Regenerative agriculture restores environments and their ecosystem services regarding water quality, climate, biodiversity, and soil health. Prioritized BMPs include manure and mortality management facilities, riparian and vegetative environmental buffers, no-till, and cover crop diversity.
This approach achieves three objectives: reducing existing nutrient and sediment flows in the Bay watershed, enhancing native habitat and agricultural production, and increasing capacity for climate smart agriculture. Resulting regenerative indicators will be directly applied on farms, and shared within the retailer and food supply industry to expand adoption of a regenerative poultry framework.
“We are honored to partner with the Alliance to positively impact the environment through more conscious agriculture and we think this is a great example of how the public and private-sectors can come together to make a difference,” said Mike Charles, founder and CEO of Lancaster-based LaBelle Patrimoine. “By combining our expertise in sustainable farming in south-central Pennsylvania with the Alliance’s deep roots in the Chesapeake Bay communities, we’re helping transform grant funding into real-world outcomes. We’re not only protecting water quality, but also strengthening community resilience across the Bay’s watershed.”
