Meet The Staff: Jenny McGarvey
Meet our Chesapeake Forests Program Manager
based out of the Virginia Office
Jenny originally is from California, and received her BS in Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley. After graduating, she decided to study forests outside of her home state, and so she worked as a research assistant in Wyoming and South Carolina, before settling in Virginia.
For four years, she was part of the Conservation Ecology Center at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, VA. There she researched the impact of disturbances, such as white-tailed deer and a changing climate, on forest growth and recovery in the Mid-Atlantic. She also received her MS in Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia for her work estimating carbon stocks in remnant old-growth forests of the Mid-Atlantic.
Jenny is the Chesapeake Forest Program Manager at the Alliance’s Annapolis office. As Program Manager she collaborates with the Chesapeake Forests Program team on a variety of projects to advocate forests, promoting forest conservation and restoration in the Chesapeake region.
Beyond her dedication to forests, Jenny is an avid reader and eater, an occasional crocheter, and she hopes to become quite the gardener. Her favorite part about the Chesapeake region is the summers, especially the thunderstorms and lightning bugs.
