Watershed-Wide Information Sharing

The Local Government Initiative Team at the Alliance works to facilitate the flow of information among levels of government and expands the knowledge and capacity of local governments on topics related to the health and restoration of the watershed. One way we do this is through local government engagement opportunities like the Wandering Waterways tour series and Local Government Roundtables.

Wandering Waterways Tour Series

Hosted by Local Government Advisory Committee members and tailored specially for elected officials at the local level, the Wandering Waterways tours provide hands-on opportunities for local leaders to learn about regional conservation efforts, and empower them to take on environmental challenges within their own communities.

Since its pilot in 2019, the Wandering Waterways series has gathered elected officials in all seven of the watershed jurisdictions to learn about topics like green infrastructure, innovative agricultural practices, clean water initiatives, and solutions to localized flooding.

Local Government Roundtable Discussions

The Alliance, in cooperation with Local Government Advisory Committee members, has hosted a number of Local Government Watershed Roundtable Discussions across the watershed. The primary goal of these roundtables is to increase elected officials’ knowledge about watershed protection and restoration, as well as to increase local engagement in the development and implementation of reaching water quality goals.

Roundtables focus on priority issues facing local governments to collect timely and relevant feedback for state and federal partners.
