Tree Canopy and Community Forestry

Supporting Tree Canopy Projects Across the Region

Whatever the size of your community, its trees and tree canopy play a vital role in the health and well-being of our local waterways. The Alliance supports local communities in managing their tree canopy at all stages of the process, including understanding their existing tree canopy, expanding it by planting trees, and maintaining it.

Our tree canopy and community forestry project tackles big issues that many localities face when growing and managing their tree canopy.

Ongoing and recent project work includes:

  • an advisory guide on sustainable funding and financing of tree canopy
  • establishing a tree stewards training in Maryland and Delaware
  • coordinating a regional scale community forestry management effort in Southern Maryland

We also maintain and host the Chesapeake Tree Canopy Network, a one-stop resource on all things tree canopy in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
