Dr. Robert Paul, Professor of Biology at St. Mary’s College of Maryland named

(January 4, 2016 – Annapolis, MD) The Board of Directors of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay has elected Dr. Robert W. Paul, professor of biology at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, as its new board chair. Paul will serve as chairman-elect this year and then assume a three-year term as Board Chair in 2017. Dr. Paul as served on the Alliance’s Board since 2011. Dr. Paul has been at St. Mary’s College since 1977 and is a biologist with a specialty in aquatic ecology. His research interests focus on the linkage between water quality and land use, environmental protection, and watershed restoration. He is also on the Board of the St. Mary’s River Watershed Association, and is past vice-president of that group. Dr. Paul’s educational background includes a B.A. in Biology from Westminster College, graduate work at the University of Michigan, St. Louis University (M.S. in Biology), and Virginia Tech (Ph.D. in Zoology).The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay is a non-profit organization headquartered in Annapolis. MD and has regional offices in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Its mission is focused on restoring and protecting the lands, rivers and streams of the Chesapeake Bay watershed through programs that inspire local action in all six Chesapeake Bay states and Washington, D.C. The Alliance is known for building strong and diverse partnerships and bringing together individuals, organizations, businesses and governments to find collaborative solutions and deliver innovative programs that help plant trees and conserve forests, reduce storm water pollution, build individual stewardship, and support local governments and communities with their restoration efforts.

In response to his election Dr. Paul remarked, “I strongly value the excellent work of the Alliance, and I am looking forward this leadership position. I also believe strongly in the Alliance’s motto- ‘Together we will get the job done’! It’s true that through collaborative local efforts we will achieve the Alliance’s mission.”
