During September, the Alliance hosted two green infrastructure trainings taught entirely in Spanish. Through key partnerships with DC’s Department of Energy and the Environment and the non-profit EcoLatinos, participants at both the rain barrel and rain garden trainings were able to leave with increased stormwater knowledge, technical know-how for the successful installation of stormwater best management practices, and an in-depth overview of the RiverSmart Homes Program. Attendees were enthusiastic and offered thoughtful questions and genuine interest in stormwater and best management practices. They spoke of the need to expand the residential stormwater incentives like the RiverSmart Homes program into surrounding communities that don’t currently offer these benefits. The Alliance is looking forward to expanding our training offerings in Spanish as well as continuing to translate our stormwater-related educational materials to serve a broader audience. Job training workshops like these have the potential to serve as real community events where a diverse group of partners can be brought to the table.
