John grew up in Augusta County, Virginia, and spent most of his childhood summers with his grandparents in Highland County, Virginia. From a very young age, John has always loved the outdoors, particularly water.
During high school, John mentored with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Fisheries Division, assisting with sampling efforts in our local waters. He graduated in 2024 from Mountain Gateway with a degree in Forest Management. Since that time, John has worked in various areas of conservation. He spent time immediately after school working with private landowners to assist them with forest stewardship. John then worked with the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, assisting golden-winged warbler cost-share programs. In the summer of 2025, before starting with the Alliance, John served on The Nature Conservancy’s Stream and Wetland Mitigation team, monitoring long-term wetland projects.
John spends nearly all of his free time on the water or in the woods, trying to find the next best fishing hole, or “big tree hunting.”
