Sophie joined the Alliance in June 2019 as the Water Quality Monitoring Projects Coordinator based out of the Virginia office. She oversees the RiverTrends project, training volunteer citizen scientists to collect water quality data in Virginia and Maryland.
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Sophie spent her childhood enjoying all that the Midwest has to offer with her parents, two brothers, and dogs. She graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Natural Resource Planning. She then served in various SCA AmeriCorps positions in state and and national parks all over the country, teaching environmental education, building trails, and conducting field research. Sophie moved to Richmond in 2017 and learned to love all things water living along the James River and exploring the local park systems. When not working to restore watersheds and connect people to the outdoors, you can find Sophie biking, running, sewing, identifying trees, or rock hopping by the river with her dog, Pinecone.
