Are you looking to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day, get your hands dirty, and make an impact? The Alliance will be at plenty of opportunities during both days! You can help plant trees, pick up trash, or simply learn from environmental/conservation experts about the Bay and what you can do to help protect it. Earth Day Events: Saturday, April 22,2023

Lancaster Climate Summit (All Day)
Organizations and businesses around Lancaster County, PA will celebrate Earth Day by sharing their expertise and services at the first-ever Lancaster County Climate Summit. The event will take place in venues across Lancaster City, each with its own thematic focus on the challenge of climate change. Learn more about locations and schedules.

Trash Cleanup with Anacostia Riverkeeper (9 AM – 12 PM)
Alliance staff be participating in a cleanup with Anacostia Riverkeeper at Kenilworth Park in Washington, DC. All equipment will be provided. Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. We will celebrate Earth Day with this cleanup, rain or shine. Tree Planting with Giant in Warrenton, VA (10 AM – 2 PM)
Join the Alliance and Giant Food to plant trees at Cool Lawn Farm, who recently celebrated its 50th year of membership with Maryland & Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative Association. Dress for the weather, because this event is also rain or shine! Volunteers need to wear long pants, clothes that can get dirty, and close-toed shoes (boots recommended). We also recommend a hat, sunscreen, and gloves if you have them. Please bring water for yourself. Register here.

Earth Day at Lemon Street Market (10 AM – 2 PM)
Stop by Lemon Street Market in Lacaster, PA this Earth Day to learn from Alliance staff while you shop. Lemon Street Market focuses on sustainable and healthy living, with many local, organic, vegan, gluten-free, and takeout options, so consider coming hungry! Masks are encouraged. No registration required!

Tree Planting in Gettysburg, PA (10 AM – 12 PM)
There’s still room for you to join us to plant trees in Gettysburg, PA! The Alliance Forests Team is seeking 40 volunteers for this special Earth Day tree planting. Additional information about parking location and other important details will come via email after you register. Register here.

Earth Day Volunteering with The Washington Youth Garden (10 AM – 1 PM)
Looking for another fun way to give back to the community and connect with nature? Join Alliance staff and USGBC National Capital Region’s Emerging Professionals committee in volunteering at the Washington Youth Garden! The event will also be outside, so dress appropriately for the weather (hat, closed-toe shoes, and sunscreen) and bring your own reuseable waterbottle. Learn more and reserve your spot.

SoWe Earth Day at Culliton Park (11 AM – 3 PM)
SoWe and Lancaster Compost Co-ops are teaming up to offer outdoor education for neighbors of all experience-levels! Get introduced, or more deeply acquainted, to the magical processes of the earth – through hands-on art and education activities for all ages, and through local poets, artists and songwriters sharing their insights & reflections! Project Clean Stream Trash Cleanups (Various Locations and Times)
We’ve got a plethora different trash cleanup opportunities this Earth Day, as part of Prject Clean Stream. You can attend one of 12 different cleanups throughout Maryland! Gloves, trash bags and other supplies will be provided. Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Most cleanups this Earth Day begin at 9 AM, but you can see more details and register for an event near you, here.

Volunteer Service Event with SCA (1 PM – 4 PM)
Join the Student Conservation Association (SCA) at Four Mile Run Park, for an afternoon of service activities, hosted by Four Mile Run Conservatory Foundation. Service projects may include wetland planting, invasive species removal, and litter abatement. Please arrive by 12:30pm for registration, light appetizers, and opening remarks. Service projects will go from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. Water will be available on site, but please bring your own water bottle. Register now.

Arbor Day Events: Friday, April 28, 2023

Tree Planting With Giant in Frederick, MD (10 AM – 12 PM)
The Alliance is partnering with Giant Food once again to plant more trees at Tulip Pond Farm in Maryland. Tulip Pond Farm’s Cathleen Wastler, serves as a member of the Maryland & Virginia Leadership Council, a group of 99 dairy farmer members that help guide the direction of MDVA. Consider joining in on our tree planting efforts to make your Arbor Day the best it can be. Find more details and register.

Lemoyne Borough Arbor Day Festival (10 AM – 2PM)
Lemoyne Borough is hosting a free community educational event for children and adults at Memorial Park in Lemoyne, PA for Arbor Day. Themes will focus on the importance of native trees and plants in providing clean water, mitigating stormwater pollution, reducing erosion, and balancing the ecosystem. The event will also focus on empowering residents to make natural changes at home to help our native birds, pollinator insects, and wildlife.
