The Chesapeake Bay has seen significant changes in the past 50 years

In the 1970s, the rivers of the Chesapeake were ailing. In 1971, a group of concerned citizens came together to restore and protect the bay for the wildlife that depends on it, and the humans that recreate, and connect with it. That partnership marked the beginning of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay.

As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we’re bringing you 50 stories featuring individuals, projects, ideas, places, and partnerships representing five decades of restored lands and waters of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
